Follow this guide to view file extensions in windows xp machine.

First, open 'My Computer' by double-clicking on the icon on the desktop. Then click on 'Tools->Folder options' (fig. 1). the 'folder options' window will open; click on the 'view' tab and locate the 'advanced settings:' box. locate the 'hide file extensions of known file types' menu item and make sure it is unchecked (fig. 2). click 'ok' and you will be able to edit files with .ex_ or .v3 extensions.
